Island Pullup does catering two ways. Kevin can bring the truck to your location and cook there, or he can cook ahead and drop the food off. Same kitchen, same menu, two completely different events. Most people asking for a quote have not thought about which one they want, and it is the first thing that changes the answer.
The truck on site
The truck shows up, sets up, and cooks while your guests are there. Jerk chicken comes off the charcoal grill in front of people rather than out of a pan that has been sitting somewhere. The smell does a lot of work.
This is the right call when the food is part of the event rather than a break in it. Block parties, backyard weddings, company appreciation days, anything where people are moving around and going back for a second plate. It also means guests eat when they are ready instead of everybody queueing at once.
What it needs from you is room. A food truck is a truck. It needs somewhere to park that it can get into and back out of, and it needs to sit there for the length of the event. If your venue is a third floor office suite or a park with bollards across the entrance, this is not the option.
Drop-off
Kevin cooks the food ahead and drops it off at your location. No truck, no on-site cooking, no vendor standing in the corner of your event. You set it out and you serve it.
This is the right call when there is nowhere to put a truck, when the event is short, or when the food is a supporting act rather than the main event. Office lunches, meetings that run through the middle of the day, family gatherings in a house, anything at a venue with rules about outside vendors on the property.
The details, including how the food arrives, are on the drop-off section of the catering page.
How to choose in about thirty seconds
Ask yourself three questions.
- Is there somewhere to park a truck? If no, it is drop-off and the rest of the questions do not matter.
- Do you want the food to be part of the experience? If people are meant to wander over, watch the grill and talk to whoever is cooking, that is the truck. If you want food to appear on a table and everyone to get on with the meeting, that is drop-off.
- How long are people there? A three hour party feeds better off a truck. A ninety minute lunch feeds better off a table.
The menu does not change
Whichever way you go, it is the same food. Jerk chicken, curry chicken, brown stew chicken, fried chicken, curry goat, oxtail and escovitch fish, with rice and peas, white rice, cabbage, sweet fried plantains, macaroni and cheese and macaroni salad on the sides. The full list is on the menu page.
What it costs
Catering is priced per event, not per plate, and the two options do not carry the same number. On-site catering brings a truck, fuel and time on location. Drop-off does not. So we quote them separately, once we know what you actually need.
Tell us the date, the headcount and where you are, and we will come back with a quote. Start on the contact page, or call 719-723-7929. We are open 11am to 8pm Monday to Saturday.
